Make It a Good Match

Can you imagine a country western star singing German folk songs? Or a glorious opera basso singing Elvis Presley hits?

No matter what kind of voice you have, experiment. Find out whether your sound is perfect for rock and roll, love songs, musicals, opera, or grunge. Sing them all – you might hear someone say, “Wow, I didn’t know you could sing like that!” in the middle of a French art song. Or, “Gee, you could fill in for Madonna!”

(Judge carefully the musical ear of the person giving you the feedback! And keep trying out various genres as your voice develops.)

Most voices are great in several styles. Some are better off limiting their repertoire. The trick is to recognize your strong suits.
